History of Organization
The Education Collaborative of Washoe County is a result of the merger of Partners in Education, Inc. and the Washoe K-16 Council: A School-to-Careers Partnership.
Partners in Education, Inc. (PIE) was established in 1988 under an advisory board and transitioned to a nonprofit organization in 1993. The Board of Directors represented
Washoe County School District, the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, and community members.
The Washoe K-16 Council was established in 1993 out of a leadership forum sponsored by the University of Nevada, Reno. The organizationšs goal was to enhance communication
between Washoe County School District (WCSD), Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) in order to provide a more seamless educational
system for students in the area. In 1997, they became the oversight council for school-to-career funds.
